With the rapid development of science and technology, knowledge is renovating rapidly. Upon graduation, the students of secondary vocational school are expected to enter the labor force directly. If the students do not have the acquired enough capacity of automatic learning, they will find it difficult to cope with the ever-changing information period. Unfortunately, this competence is often ignored in our education.Therefore, apart from teachers’ knowledge, we should pay more attention to the cultivating of students’ self-learning capacity, as to deal with the society better.Firstly, the author define the significance of learners’ self-study ability, secondly,the subjects of the study are described. Based on a deep understanding of the related theories, the author adopts questionnaire to investigate the subjects’ learning behaviors and habits both inside and outside classroom settings. Some strategies for cultivating ethnic minority students’ learning autonomy are putting forward as follows: according to the properties of self-study in chemistry and the learners’ characteristic, a well-balanced instruction between the objective and methodology is to be adopted, which includes subjects such as preview, experiment, classroom teaching, consolidation and collaborative leaning; Students’ role as the main body of learning must be fully employed during teaching process so as to arouse their learning motivation, fostering proper learning habits and promoting their self-learning.Chemistry is featured by its practicability for vocational school students. Therefore, a good mastery of scientific learning methods is certainly helpful, which has promoted students’ motivation to learn chemistry well and guarantied the success of this subject.This study is conducted in Diqing Secondary Ethnic Vocational School. The subjects of this study are students of nursing from two class in the same grade. The data used in comparison are obtained from questionnaire and final exam scores. With enhanced self-learning capacity and learning habits, results show that the subjects form the experimental class have been obviously benefited.
