The written language systems in the world can be classified into two types, phonogram and ideogram. Chinese characters are a kind of ideogram, which recorded in symbols and pronounced based on its form. The ideogram characters are formed from the meaning of it. Thus, the character pattern is directly and closely related to its pronunciation. This’ s an obviously advantage of ideogram. While for the phonogram, the character pattern has nothing to do with its pronunciation, so you cannot pronounce it according to its character pattern. Our Chinese characters are typical ideogram, as a written symbol, it not only helps us to record our great and glorious history and cultures, but also a necessary intermediary in our daily life. As our mother language, it’s very important for each of us to learn the Chinese well.But there are many problems in our Chinese teaching, the primary schools don’t pay enough attention to it, the teachers care more about the reading and writing than the character itself. This directly leads to time reduced on the Chinese characters teaching and the methods are also simple. The students just rote memory it, they don’t have a good sense of the relationship of the pronunciation, form and meaning of a character. The result is that the students only know how to read it but not how to write it. Some students even lost the interest of learning Chinese. All these caused that our Chinese teaching is not so good. We spend lots of time to teach, but there’re still lots of words that the students cannot read, or cannot write.Because of the above reasons, this article will take the Baihanchang centre school for example, and did a research on Chinese teaching in primary schools. Discussed the importance of Chinese teaching from a teacher’s view,and did a survey among the students and teachers. By the methods of literature with the course to analyze the present problems in teaching. Investigate deeply in teachers and students, analyze the teaching cases and then seek a way to improve our Chinese teaching.
