The rapid development of modern society requires higher-quality education. So the education reform has been exploring with the change. Especially, the “Outline of Basic Education Curriculum Reform” issued by the ministry of education in 2001 which guides how to deepen the reform. The outline highlights that the positions of teachers and students in class are dominant and principal, which makes it clear that education should be faced to all the students. Teachers should pay more attention to the students’ individual differences, meet their different learning needs and then bring each student into full development.So the advantages of hierarchical teaching are highlighted that it concerns the differences of each individual student in their interests, hobbies, cognitive ability, habits and so on. Students will be taught according to their different characteristics and different levels of students’ development in the ZPD will be maximized. However, the researchers also found that it still has somewhat weakness after a lot of further researches and practice, as it ignores the characteristics of students’ psychological development. On one hand, obvious stratification will motivate students to study harder to some extent, and on the other hand, it will weaken some students’ self-esteem and self-confidence, then label effect that leads to polarization among students can occur easily. So recessive hierarchical teaching method arises, which achieves optimization in teaching process under the existing conditions.This topic provides preliminarily the concept of hierarchical teaching and recessive hierarchical teaching with the existed research both at home and abroad, then summarizes the theoretical basis of the hierarchical teaching together with the author’s teaching practice, and describes the principles of recessive hierarchical teaching. This approach will provide teachers of physics in high school teaching strategies. In order to verify the validity of the recessive hierarchical teaching, the author takes samples from the present school to carry out the experiment and shows the feasibility of recessive hierarchical teaching strategy, and make reflection on the problems found in the experiment.
