The most distinct feature of quality education lies in carrying out our educational activitiesamong all the students. To improve the English level of all the students is the ultimate goal of ournew curriculum and the new teaching reform. But, we must notice the huge difference betweenthem, and know that our current teaching mode can not deal with them correctly. So, to explorean approach which can not only accomplish all the requirements of the teaching syllabus andnew curriculum, but also take all the differences between the students into account, presents aninevitable challenge to us. Thus, level-varied teaching method comes into existence. The goal of the research is to explore a certain approach to improve the efficiency of classteaching for students of varied levels, and the following research methods are used here:literature research, questionnaire, observation and field research method.Level-varied teaching takes an overall view on the differences of students, based on thetheory of “teaching students according to their aptitude”, the theory of Zone of ProximalDevelopment, the theory of Multiple Intelligences, the Humanistic education Theory and theConcept of Quality Education. It aims to improve the students’ overall ability. The thesis tries to define varied-teaching method, and to analyze the features, theimplementary principles in teaching process and the new requirements from teachers andstudents. This thesis, based on the requirements of the new curriculum criteria, includes theprocedures of methods of varied-level teaching in English in senior middle schools anddemonstrates detailed procedures, together with possible problems and precautions. Of all thefactors, two points need our special attention: first, we cannot emphasize the importance ofinvestigation on students’ level too much. Only when the students can be classified scientifically, can we lay a good foundation for our later teaching. Moreover, we may change the classificationaccording to students’ dynamic change, thus, we can make our teaching more effective. Second, the influence of non-intelligence factors on our study. The new relationship between teachers andstudents is built on a basis of mutual respect and understanding and the implementation of varied-level teaching, different from traditional class teaching, makes it possible to develop thegood relationship to a higher level in a harmonious atmosphere. The thesis includes detailed teaching case, which is used to explore deeper into thevaried-teaching method. Everything has ups and downs and there is no exception to ourexploration. This thesis makes a comparison between two categories, one is the experimental classes andthe other, control classes and special attention goes to the change of the students’ attitudes.Research shows that varied-level teaching provides great impetus for improvement of Englishmarks and the change of students’ attitude towards English learning, meanwhile, it benefits thedevelopment of the teachers a lot.
