Course of Science Popularization and Innovation of Nanotechnology is an expanding course presented by Weiyu High School, Shanghai, aiming at developing students’ innovative spirit and practical abilities. To respond the urge to evaluate students’ comprehensive qualities, many schools begin to conduct researches on evaluation of students’ innovative literacy, and bring their research findings into practice. To Weiyu High School, a proper and effective evaluation of students’ innovative spirit and practical abilities is an essential to ensure a complete and successful practice of this Course.The author adopts the method of action research in this study, which contains four stages:(1) theoretical preparation: literature review, understanding of actual demands, communication with curricula designer, school administrators and teachers in order to clarify the evaluation viewpoint, construct a proper evaluation model, and set up the concepts of evaluation;(2) program planning : design of an initial plan, which is mainly about formulating a tool and determining subjects and methods for the evaluation;(3) trial test: trial test, data collection, verifying reliability and validity of the tool, and making according adjustments;(4) program confirmation: carrying out a formal evaluation, analyzing the result, concluding the evaluation and summing up a complete and feasible evaluation program.The formal evaluation concludes that:(1) students do possess innovative spirit and practical abilities to some extent; however, their performance levels show a difference;(2) the difference above-mentioned finds impression in students’ different concerns for various aspects of innovative spirit and practical abilities;(3) the radar chart clearly reveals students’ difference performance and the results corroborate teachers’ prediction. Therefore, this program is practical in evaluating students’ innovative spirit and practical abilities, and is able to indicate the students’ future development to a certain extent and to help improve the teaching process.
