Teachers as an important human resource of life-long education system in society, the population quality and ability is directly related to the quality of our education, but the rural substitute teachers as a special social group, is also widely exist in some rural areas of country, has certain realistic significance and importance of their existence, in short- term they will still play an important role to China education. Teacher professional development is a continuous process in their individual, knowledge, skills and the other overall quality. The professional development of teachers has a very important influence on the teachers’ career development, among them, the substitute teachers as a special part of teacher groups, with a specific social role, so it’s a very important topic to pay more attention on the substitute teacher’s professional development.The teacher’s professional development is mainly reflected in the professional quality, professional knowledge, professional spirit and skills upgrading and development; The process of teachers’ professional development is restricted and affected by various factors, including individual teachers themselves, the school work environment, government and social area attention on the substitute teachers, and also affected by the factors such as their family. This thesis studies the problem of their professional development by researching a lot of document and works, reading related journals about rural substituted teachers, using questionnaire survey, interviews, data analysis and statistics methods of investigation and study the case of one senior middle school in Shanxi province, firstly, survey the status and reality of the cases on rural substitute teachers’ professional development; second, find out the the affecting factors and problems, and analyze the specific reasons for the main problems. Based on the above, finally, discuss on the counter-measures to promote the rural substitute teachers’ professional development, in order to improve the practical operation on their professional development, thus better guidance process and practice, and ultimately to promote the further development of our country education.
