Education plays an essential role in meeting the challenges of the future and making the human being advance towards peace, freedom, civilization and progress. As the main force of rural education, rural teachers assume responsibility in teaching and educating people, which fosters a large quantity of talented men. The professional development of rural teachers is the motive force of sustained development of rural education. Based on needs of rural teachers, the supporting system should be as the standing point and destiny of the professional development of rural teachers.In this paper, the author selected the supporting system of the professional development of rural compulsory education teachers in Tonghai County, Yunan Province, as the object for the study, and applied the literature research, the questionnaire survey and individual interview based on theory research and fieldwork. The current situation, focus and tend of the research is obtained by literature investigation. Then questionnaire survey and individual interview are carried out to make clear the current situation and problems of the supporting system of the professional development of rural compulsory education teachers in Tonghai County, Yunan Province from different aspects including the national government, schools, society, teachers, families and students. Whereafter, the paper analyses the reasons and puts forward strategies.The full text altogether divides into five parts.The first part is introduction which elaborates the research background, the reason for selecting the topic, the research significance, research methods and research ideas as well as the literature review, explores the current research and the developing trend of the supporting system of the professional development of rural compulsory education teachers at home and abroad, and clarifies kernel concepts.The second part states the current situation and problems of the supporting system of the professional development of rural compulsory education teachers in Tonghai County, Yunan Province. Questionnaire survey and individual interview are carried out to investigate and identify current situation and problems of the supporting system of the professional development of rural compulsory education teachers in Tonghai County, Yunan Province from different aspects including the national government, schools, society, teachers, families and students. Whereafter, the paper analyses the current situation and existing problems based on based on the collection of the related information.The third part analyzes the causes of the problems of the supporting systemof the professional development of rural compulsory education teachers inTonghai County, Yunan Province. The root of the problems was found afteranalyzing the causes of the problems from different aspects including thenational government, schools, society, families, teachers and students.The fourth part presents some reflections and countermeasures to the causes of the problems of the supporting system of the professional development of rural compulsory education teachers in Tonghai County, Yunan Province. Countermeasures are put forward at the national, school, social, household and teacher levels, by referring to successful experiences of supporting system of rural compulsory education teachers’ professional development at home and abroad, and basing on Maslow’s hierarchical of needs theory, constructivism theory, the theory of learning organization and career development theory.
