Chinese is a discipline of both instrumentality and humanity, the importance of which is beyond any doubt. It is a cultural basic discipline compulsory for students of all majors in the secondary vocational schools. It plays an important role in helping students learning all kinds of knowledge, and gaining vocational skills. Therefore it helps develop the students’ comprehensive vocational skills and qualities and lay the foundation for their sustainable development and lifelong learning. However, due to the tendency of “emphasizing skills, but despising humanities”, “emphasizing majors,but despising cultivation”, the importance of Chinese Education is unable to be realized. In addition, the students in secondary vocational schools don’t realize the importance of Chinese, Chinese there is severely neglected and faces many embarrassing situations. Particularly, Chinese reading which is always the basis and core of Chinese education is generally faced with some problems such as the students don’t realize their subject identity, the teaching is hard to deepen and the teaching efficiency is too low. This paper aims to solve the problems of Chinese reading teaching. The method of “Close Reading” which is popular and proved to be effective in the present New National Curriculum Reform is closely studied with combination of the author’s teaching practice. It combines the theoretical exploration and practical application and expects to figure out the general applications of “Close Reading” in secondary vocational Chinese reading teaching and conclude the problems in the application. The final aim is to help the Chinese teachers in the secondary vocational schools realize the importance of “Close Reading” and offers them some practical suggestions of applying the method so to improve Chinese Education in secondary vocational schools and to improve its efficiency.The literature collected is analyzed in detail, and the difference between “Close Reading” in the context of literature criticism and teaching context is discriminated.The paper investigates the current situation of Chinese Education in secondary vocational schools and the causes. By applying “Close Reading” in the real teaching,the author finds that the teachers’ close reading is the foundation and prerequisite of the application of the method. It is important that the students should be given enough time for reading so the teacher could be able to guide them to appreciate the language and the deep connotation; create situations, stimulate imaginations, activate experience, and finally realize reading reduction; help the students immerse in reading to grasp its rich emotion; design speaking and writing practice based on the text and realize the transfer and through understanding. Meanwhile, the application of“Close reading” emphasizes the role of reciting and “dialogue”, and encourages multiple and individual interpretations. Therefore, to apply “Close reading”, the characteristics of the students should be considered. It should be avoided to impose the teacher’s reading to the students, to seek amount and comprehension. Let “close reading” not just a slogan, but truly walk into the reading classroom.
