Maths Competition has experienced its climax as well as its low tide since it came into being in China, Nowadays, under the circumstances of trying hard to carry out the quality -oriented education, maths competition, being regarded as the opposite of quality-oriented education, is blamed by many people. In order to study the relationship between maths competition and quality-oriented education, as the author of the paper, I have divided Maths competition into two kinds Professional -Proficience-Maths-Competition and Popularized-Maths-Competition and studied them respectively. The Professional-Proficience-Maths-Competition is for the minority of the students who have special talents for Maths, enabling them to develop full in Maths and to win honour for the motherland in international Maths competion. This kind of competition involves a few students and it's high-graded. It has been supported directly by some government departments concerned of different levels and has been well-organized. It has a formal training system and undertakes the country's honour, so the society, government and thd parents admit and respect its existance. However, the Popularized-Maths-Competition is an activity facing to the majority of the young Maths amateurs. It shares the same aim as the quality-oriented education; its content is the same as the requirement of the quality-oriented education. But it is the Populariead-Maths-Competition, which is closely related to quality-oriented education, that has been misunderstood and blamed. It has ever been treated as examination-oriented education. Considering the reasons, on one hand, it has been misunderstood; on the other hand, it has been badly influenced by the followings: parents?strong hopes of making their children become top ones; the poor organizations and the low qualities of some organizors. On the base of studying these phenomena carefully, this paper presents some solutions to the problems concerned, hoping that Maths Competition devolops healthily and orderly.
