Physical education in school is the base of national physical culture, and teaching is an important part of school physical education. Gymnastic teaching is one of the main parts of physical education, and accounts for a considerable proportion. Gymnastic teaching can not only promote the coordinated development of middle school students body shape and organ function, but also strengthen their physique and agility, develop such fine quality as bravery, tenacity, perseverance, and build up spirit like helping each other, surpassing difficulties and advancing jointly and bravely. It cannot be replaced by other events. The gymnastic teaching cannot be carried adequately in most middle school for the inadequate equipment, places, faculties, etc. Therefore, to some degree, how the gymnastic textbook is carried out can reflect the comprehensive quality and implementation of the physical education teaching plan in middle school. Physical education in our country has gradually been improved. Lifelong physical education will become our goal. Physical education not only exerts influence on body building up, physique strengthening, but also on people moral code, ideology, behavior, relationship etc. The comprehensive effect will attract doubled attention. The extension of the function and goal of the physical education brings the verifications of the corresponding teaching methods to meet the requirement of the times. At the same time, the approach of appraising the physical education will become more and more objective. The continual adjusting of the physical education textbook of middle school and primary school is in order to adapt to the developing tendency of physical education. The textbooks attaches great importance to the students physiological and physical characteristics, thus it can increase their interest. The context is combined with the standard of physical exercise to make P. E. lifelong and improve the mass physical exercise. It combines the physical education and the health education, make students know self-care and self-exercise so that they can change from passive-study to active- study.Successful P. E. teaching must properly coordinate the relationship among student, teacher, textbook, teaching method (including material method and approaches). In this article, the gymnastic education in Shandong middle school was appraised under the current P. E. appraisal standards, which was completed after visiting several places and making questionnaires on the above-mentioned four basic elements, with the results of ten year long research on students health situation in Shandong Province(1985-1995). 200 copies of the questionnaire were done in more than 17 areas and 60 counties and cities in Shandong Province. The urban and rural difference and the different proportion counted by junior and senior high school have been taken into account in the questionnaire. 155 copies of the questionnaire have been taken back, the returning rate reached 77.5%. The questionnaire is highly representative. Questionnaire II is for experts. It was on the problems existing in the common middle schools in Shandong province and was given to middle school P. E. teachers who have worked more than 10 years in these fields. 30 copies were sent out and 25 copies were returned back. The returning rate is 83.3 %. After authentication, the questionnaire was said to be highly effective and reliable.
