Alongside the increasing globalization and internationalization ofeducational activities, the great effect of education on the economic and socialdevelopment has become conspicuous. While society expects much fromeducation, it also makes higher and excessive demands on education. However,since students live in schools, families and a society, while the time they stayin schools is limited, it is almost impossible for schools alone to fulfill thespecial and important missions of education endowed by the society. Only withthe cooperation of schools, families and society can we accomplishsuccessfully the systematic project of educating people. Among the threeelements of school, family and society, the former two are easier to becontrolled, and thereby, it is critically important to intensify thecommunication and cooperation between schools and families. And this issuearouses the author's attention.This essay makes an in-depth case study on the present situationconcerning parents' participation in children's education and the cooperationbetween parents and schools in urban China, aiming to prove up the mainproblems in the course of mutual communication and cooperation betweenschool educators and family educators and to analyze the causes of theseproblems, and also, to seek after the strategies of solving them, in the hope thatthe two educational forces act in close coordination in order to construct agood and harmonious educational ecological environment.From the educational sociological angle, this paper made an investigationon the present situation of parents' participation in children's education in sixmiddle schools, primary schools and kindergartens in the main urban districtsin Chongqing. The investigation was done from the three aspects of attitudes,regulations and practice adopting the methods of both questionnaire andinterview. When summing up the result of questionnaire investigation, theauthor referred to the relevant interview, and this guaranteed the authenticity,scientificalness and validity of inquisition.Through the investigation, the author finds that, concerning parents'participation in children's education in the main urban districts in Chongqing,some problems exist either on the aspects of attitudes and regulations or onthat of practice. This essay makes a comparative analysis of these problemsand attempts to bring forward some improving strategies concerning parents'participation in children's education. The essay holds that, in order to achieveparents' effective participation in school education and the communication andcooperation between parents and schools, the foundation is the right attitudestoward "parents' participation in children's education", the proper regulationsand laws serve as the guarantee, and what is more essential is the fine planningand sharing of work and close cooperation between parents and schools, whilesocial concern and support is also necessary.The essay also shows that, the research result of the present state of"parents' participation in children's education" in Choiigqing would havesome reference values for people to understand the present state of parents'participation in children's education in China and to make decisions andresearch on "parents' participation in children's education" in the country.Through the research of this essay, we realize that, to educate people is not theresponsibility of schools alone, the answers to problems in education shouldnot be sought after only in education itself, and the research on educationalproblems should not be made only from the angle of pedagogy.
