| As a kind of conscious activity of human beings that reflects the consciousness and introspectiveness of human behavior, the evaluation is to perfect the human activity gradually. During the foreign language teaching in middle school, the evaluation for study ability helps to overcome the shortcomings of the evaluation system in examination-oriented education, and to promote students' study ability and the development of their personality. Meanwhile, it also provides some inspiration and constructive ideas in changing Chinese teachers' views of evaluation for study ability and reforming the examination system.Based on the theory of evaluation for study ability (TES A), this thesis paper is to expound the measurement of students' study ability hi the foreign language teaching, and the contents, principles and method of evaluation for study ability through examination peculiarities of foreign language teaching and the periodical characteristics of middle school students in then- physical and psychological development. Foreign language teaching in middle school aims to train students' comprehensive ability to use language, which is also the level of study ability students should reach, The comprehensive ability to use language could be evaluated from four aspects: the aspects of emotion and attitude; of language competence; of learning strategy and of cultural consciousness, hi order to have a complete, objective and just evaluating result, multi-evaluation system should be applied.The illustration is carried on from four aspects.Firstly, there is an introduction about the necessity of building an evaluation system in quality-oriented education.Secondly, a retrospection of the formation and progress of TESA will be followed along with an introduction about present development of TESA.Then comes the body part, in which is an elaboration of the contents, principles and method of evaluation for study ability in foreign languageteaching.Finally, there is a discussion about the inspiration that TESA will bring to the foreign language teaching in middle school.Thus a conclusion is reached. The development of quality-oriented education mainly depends on the change in teachers' view of evaluation and a reform in evaluation method During the foreign language teaching in middle school, teachers should stress the evaluation for students' study ability. Therefore, they not only evaluate students' factual language competence but pay more attention to their study potentials. In other words, teachers should emphasize the evaluation of students' emotion and attitude, learning strategies and cultural consciousness and etc. Moreover, they could improve students' quality by applying the formative evaluation method, in this way, talents who are excel in foreign language can be cultivated. These talents will be of knowledge, reason and emotion as well as faith and ideal. |
