Besides providing the learner with limitless space in which sharing of information, equal communication and interaction are possible, cyber education influences the learner's learning adaptability in a totally new manner. Learning adaptability refers to an individual's aptitude "to overcome obstacles in an academic situation" or "to solve problems to achieve a better result in academic work." Learning adaptability covers three aspects, namely, the adaptability of the learner's concept, of the academic environment and of the learner's learning method, in which inadaptability may often occur. To solve such inadaptability, this thesis attempts a study of adaptable learning strategy.Despite the ten years' application of cyber education in the west, there has been little research on the learner's experience with the cyber, nor assessment of cyber learning from the learner's point of view. Owing to limitation in disseminating cyber education and in means of administration in China, few reports have been made regarding what elements lead to the learner's inadaptability. Though some scholars have proposed the adaptable learning theory, nearly no attempt has been made in the study of its application in practice. Therefore, a quest of research methods on learning adaptability and a probe of adaptability of adaptable learning strategy may prove the key to instructional quality and learning efficiency in cyber education.This thesis begins with a summary of research on cyber education and learning adaptability home and abroad, and probes research methods on learning adaptability in cyber education. The thesis outlines, according to the Constructional learning theory, the background and inexorability of adaptable learning theory and analyzes the main features and key links ofits mode. Through positivistic analysis of adaptable learning strategy in actual teaching and learning, the thesis exposes a few problems worthy of attention in the field and proposes some fundamental ideas for teaching and learning reform.The project this thesis is based on does not aim at theoretical research only, but focuses on exposition of the practicability of adaptable learning mode and strategy in the on-campus instruction in cyber adult education, with the aid of data collected from questionnaires, ideas obtained from summary of research literature in the field and the author's personal experience of teaching administration as well. The thesis has reached the conclusion that methods and perspectives to study Chinese cyber learners' adaptability cannot be limited to learning psychology only, but should be extended to various fields such as society, culture, administration, technology and higher education, for all these would condition and affect the learner's adaptability. To solve the difficult problem, it is important to apply flexibly adaptable learning strategy and organize scientifically links of instruction.The distinctive feature of this thesis lies in its analysis of a learning theory based on positivistic study of firsthand materials with support of theories in the field and emphasis on the learners's achievement.
