Teacher evaluation is a universal factor, which can influence the teacher's growth and development. It is not only a major section of school job . but also a significant element for the teacher's growth and development. According to the purpose of evaluation, it can be divided into rewarding and punishing teacher evaluation(RPTE)and developing teacher evaluation (DTE). Nowadays, some developed countries, such as Britain, begin to get rid of outmoded RPTE due to its more disadvantages, instead, to advocate DTE greatly. DTE is a kind of growing teacher evaluation, which aims to promote the development of teacher's future field. The prominent characteristic of DTE is to depend on teacher himself, to face his future development, to respect his principle position and personality, to stimulate his spirit so as to realize his self-valuation as much as possible.Taking a history teacher for example, the author emphatically analyses the disadvantages of teacher evaluation practiced in China at present. Comparing traditional teacher evaluation with DTE, the author discusses the basic characteristics of DTE and the achievements of DTE at home and abroad. Combining his teaching experience on history, the author presents the basic methods on how to carry out the developing history teacher evaluation (DHTE) . Besides making a macroscopic system for DHTE, the author designs the criterion and practical scheme during history teaching, as well as establishing the evaluation principle, range and criterion. The self-evaluation of a history teacher and portfolio of teacher during his growing are both effective methods for DHTE.As a grass-roots teacher, the author has an attempt on the reform of teacher evaluation according to the study of DHTE. By the studying, we can conclude that the essence of DHTE is to regard the teachers as the subject in the school-growing, whose key is to return self-confidence to theteacher. By means of DHTE, both students and teachers can share the benefits and development as well so as to stimulate the teacher's initiative, and improve teaching quality.
