As we advocate quality oriented education today, quite a large number of educators abandon the concept that students are evaluated only with their marks and stick to the idea that students should be treated with humanity. This study aims to find an effective way to help, those potential students with their English study, who are far behind other students and can not develop or show their abilities in every field in their daily life. It is really very important for potential students to overcome their difficulties in their study and try to improve their English. If they can manage to do it, they will probably face their life confidently and bravely. The theory of Multiple Intelligences inspired me to initiate the following study. With its help, potential students ,as a new concept, is introduced to us. We have reasons to keep on working hard to help them with their English and we are sure about the success in the future. The related theories in this study include the concept of Potential Students and the research on the process of forming learning abilities, Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development and the learning theory in cognitive psychology. They play a very important role in supporting and instructing this study. We analyze the potential students from two perspectives: their classifications and formation. The studies on intelligence factors and non-intelligence factors are the main parts. Test, questionnaire, observation in class and interviews are used to get the data. Statistical Package for Social Science is applied in the processing of data and t-test is run to help determine whether the difference between the two sample means is statistically significant. We end the study with the conclusion that what we try in the research is effective to English potential students; the practice is worth the efforts of the teacher and students, but may need a longer time and patience to try some more new ideas.
