Language is an important factor to build up a society. The rapid development of science and technology has enhanced the infiltration and interflow among countries in the political, economic, scientific and cultural aspects. Opening-up and participation in international competition, exchange and collaboration are new historical trend which is a consensus reached by all nations in different parts of the world. Knowing a foreign language and even some has been one of the important skills for existence and development in the 21st century. English, as an important international exchange language, has been listed one of the key courses of the elementary education in many countries.In order to outline what the English curriculum practice of compulsory education in Hongkong is, the historical development of English curriculum in Hongkong is firstly described in the paper and the curriculum aim, setting, principal teaching content, teaching methods and its evaluation will then be discussed.Chinese mainland, bearing the similar cultural and language background, is progressing English curriculum reform of elementary education, and there's much in Hongkong's method that Chinese mainland can make use of. But using the experiences for reference is not equal to copy. Only English curriculum with Chinese characteristics can solve the question of "low efficiency". "International Collaboration for Integrated English Program" in Guangdong has given a good example to design a new English teaching model of the elementary education with Chinese characteristics.
