The map is related with geography closely, so it is also called "the second language" of geography. It is the headspring for students to derive geography knowledge, and an important tool for students to comprehend and cement geography knowledge as well. Using map in classroom fully and effectively is an effective way for students to obtain some geography skill and geography ability in a certain degree. The development of computer technology and the fall of the price of its interrelated products make the use of electronic map in geography teaching possible. The use of it will change the way of both teachers and students to receive and organize geography information, then change teaching ideology and teaching pattern.This paper is divided into three parts.In part one, the conception of the electronic map is defined on the basis of analyzing a lot of definitions in domestic country. Then the main functions of it are summarized and the difference between electronic map and common map is analyzed by using many compact discs and net electronic map.In part two, the meaning of using electronic map in geography teaching is discussed, then its precondition and status in quo are analyzed. It comes to a conclusion that using electronic map in geography teaching not only needs the support of some hardware and software, but also demands that geography teachers have better quality.In part three, the range of using electronic map in geography teaching is researched considering the primary content of geography teaching in middle school. By analyzing questionnaires I conclude that lack of software resources, limitation of hardware conditions and the lag of teaching conception are the three primary factors influencing electronic map all-pervading in geography teaching in middle school. The ideology of using electronic map in geography teaching is studied. Some methods of gaining electronic map are introduced. Finally the feasibility of its using manner and resort is validated by teaching practice.The textual research keeps a foothold in the high school geography teaching's practice, combines theory analyzing investigation questionnaires together with teaching practice ,and the task's researching contents have reference value for the high school geography teacher to use map better, to educate the students to apply the electronic map, and to increase the students' abilities.
