Art Appreciation Teaching consists in art education of children. Mostly, by means of the appreciation teaching, kindergartens build up their children's esthetic experience. As a result, the children's esthetic sense and emotion will be incited and formed. However, such education fails to develop effectively due to various problems in reality. The paper is based on the investigation of two classes in a kindergarten in order to analyze the children's preference for famous paintings by some art masters. The pictures selected by children are used as visual aids in the art appreciation course for the experiment class on one hand, and in the illustration teaching of the art course for the comparison class on the other. The investigation and experiment lead to analyze children's preference for the famous paintings, to survey different influence upon the two classes in an art kindergarten, and upon an ordinary kindergarten. The influence is visible when the children have their art course. Eventually, differences between the art appreciation course and the illustration teaching course appear in the children' drawings of the two classes after using different teaching methods. Hereby, some specific suggestions of how to practice the art appreciation course are put forward on the basis of aforesaid research. Conclusions of the research are as follows: 1.The investigation of children's preference for famous paintings shows: (1) Children attach their attention first of all to the color of a picture, then to some striking parts in its detail while selecting their favorite paintings. Meanwhile, their response to the paintings goes in producing their free association of ideas with the picture's subject matter. (2) Children's preference is characterized by relative stabilities. The age difference does not appear obviously. 2. Art appreciation teaching with famous paintings as its visual aids is more efficient to children with certain drawing knowledge and skills. As to ordinary children, such a teaching method produces only limited result. The result is not so obvious as to the former ones. 3. The two different teaching methods exert different influence on children to do their drawing. The illustration teaching method is helpful for children to display theessence and structure of an object, to acquire some drawing knowledge and skills through perceived images. But the method is apt to make children learn to copy only, if it is used improperly. As to the method of painting appreciation teaching, it affects children's drawing in their picture's shape, color and composition. Children of the experiment class demonstrate colorful diversity. 4. Usually traditional drawing tools and material are oil-painting brushes, mark pens and pencil-drawing paper. Moreover, another drawing form is colored-paper clipping, which children are fond of, which also reflects different features similar to those of the two classes mentioned above. The four-to-five-year olds can use various geometric figures and irregular paper shapes given by their teacher to compose a picture, pruning a bit at most, while the five-to-six-year olds can already clip and paste colored paper nimbly to compose a picture, depicting a theme in their mind.Keeping on to appreciate famous paintings by art masters, talking about the paintings with their teacher, by and by, children acquire skills of how to model with lines, how to compose images, how to make use of color and how to draw a picture as a whole with their sixth sense. Namely, the vocabulary of the art language used by art masters in their work ripens and enriches children's artistic tactile sensation imperceptibly. Such helpful influence will work naturally in their own drawings too. Selecting famous paintings for the art appreciation course, teachers and students will join their hands. The cooperation insures the teaching progress in due order and system and in consideration to children's acquisition ability. Besides, according to actual content of the course, teachers may use the two teaching methods alternatively or...
