The promulgation of the English Curriculum brings at leastfour challenges to the traditional English teaching: the challenges of developing the students' comprehensive abilities of the language, the challenge of the students' learning style changes, the challenge of the changes of the teachers' role, the challenge of the educational assessment. To answer the challenges, a new model of English teaching should be built based upon the English Curriculum. This paper have made valuable exploration on the theoretical bases, teaching aims, sustaining systems , essential steps and evaluation standards of the model. The theoretical bases of this paper for building the new model of the English teaching are: 1. Linguistic theoretical bases. The aim of English teaching is to guarantee the students to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of using the language, but not to master the knowledge of the language such as phonetics, vocabulary or grammar and so on. Oral English is prior to written English. Developing the students' listening and speaking abilities should be emphasized. To master a language is a result of acquisition, not learning. 2. Psychological theoretical bases. Englishteaching is a process of "stimulus-response-reinforce" ; learning is aprocess that learners build an inner psychology structure actively; in order to get a good effect, teachers should give their classes according to the theory "the further development zone" ; a good emotion and environment is very important for the learners when teachers give their lessens. Teaching aims should be settled according to the English Curriculum. Teaching aims can be divided as: aims of language skill, aims of language knowledge, aims of emotion and attitude, aims of learning strategy, and aims of cultural notion. The sustaining systems for the new teaching model are: the changes of the teachers' role, the students' learning style changes and the exploit of multiple curriculum resources. The fundamental steps to realize the model are: l.tocreate a good learning environment; 2. to build a dynamic balance among the teacher, the students and teaching materials; 3. to express oneself freely. Evaluation is an important part of English teaching. Scientific evaluation is very important for effective teaching. Teachers should use the summative evaluation appropriately, and use the formative evaluation actively to improve the students' English.
