The present English teaching has been advancing towards the direction of cultivating students' comprehensive abilities-the ability of language application, the ability of communication and cooperation, the ability of creation. However we are still using the conclusive evaluation -paper examination by which we evaluate students at the middle or end of the semester. This assessing system emphasizes the master of basic knowledge but it cannot give an objective and scientific evaluation of students' comprehensive ability and non-intelligent factors presented in the process of studying.The survey is done in one class in Junior Two and one class in Senior Two. The purpose of it is to compare and analyse the modes of educational evaluation adopted by two visiting teachers and four Chinese English teachers. The survey lasts one year. The results show that there is a great deal of difference in the mode of educational evaluation which varies with different conceptions of linguistic and education, and it may vary with different cultural background obviously. By comparing the modes of educational evaluation used by Chinese English teachers and visiting English teachers, we may benefit from the westerners' advanced educational evaluation and realize the necessity of transforming our traditional evaluating system. In order to well develop our English teaching, we should meditate our educational evaluation and learn the new scientific evaluation from westerners. We should reflect on the disadvantages of our traditional one and form a new one that is most likely to give a reasonable and positive evaluation on students' study process and achievements. The new educational evaluation would cultivate and inspire students' positivity and enthusiasm in their study. We are going to set up a fairer educational evaluation system which may rather objectively and authentically reflect the students' study progress, a scientific and reliable educational evaluation system which would guide our teaching progress.
