Implementation Of Management By Objectives To Improve School Management Performance

Management principle varies in accordance with the time and place. This study focuses on the transformation in school management from functional-oriented management stressing on " what should do " to effect-oriented one attaching importance to " how to do most effectively."The overall thinking of this study is, based on the synthesis of literature and concerning researches and the actual situation of the school, to realize school Management by Objectives (MBO) so as to increase school management effect through employing theories on school management and education psychology combining with business management related theories.It is believed in this study that to achieve the above goals, " one focus" must be emphasized," three stages" well coordinated and " four links" worked out. The study has been carried out from the following three aspects:Firstly, an exploration on the meanings and functions of MBO has been conducted, aiming at obtaining a sharper view that specific purpose must be achieved in any school management activities and the correctness of the object is the criterion to all activities in any school. MBO theory having contributed a great deal to improving the effect of enterprise management is derived from business management, Theoretically, it can be applied to school management; so an analysis on MBO theory and its related study has been carried out to seek a proper way as how to put it into practice.Secondly, to find a practical management way in school, the basic procedure and concrete operation for implementing MBO in school, combining with literature and related theories, has been analyzed. In the mean while, an analysis, integrating which with a study on the schools having implemented MBO via interviewing and case studying, on the beneficial functions of MBO in school management has been done.Thirdly, the author has put forward a tentative idea on further improvement of MBO methods and an overall thinking towards the innovation of school management theories with management modes.
