Cooperative instruction should be based on students. It is intended to create an equal and democratic atmosphere, cultivate students' potential ability, establish an harmonious relationship between students and teachers, so as to improve their overall qualities including their specialities. In this sense, cooperative instruction is an effective way to carry out quality education.The paper that follows firstly offers an outline of the concept of cooperative instruction, its theory base and the foreign and domestic research on it. Upon the basis of the theory above, the author endeavors to find junction point of the geography subject and cooperative instruction, and based on the analysis of the feasibility of this instruction, the author puts forward the teaching goals ,rationales and its view of value.In the paper, there types of cooperation in the geography classroom are suggested. The author first sets forth the teaching principles, condition and bases of this instruction, and then looks into the manipulations of S-S cooperation, T-T cooperation and S-T cooperation. In order to fully illustrate the implementation and application of the cooperative instruction in junior-middle-school geography class, the author attaches three teaching cases to this paper. At the end of the paper, the author reflects the one-year teaching reform, summarizes the effects of this type of teaching and presents problems which are open to further research.This paper aims to draw the teachers' attention to the cooperative instruction and thus improve the geography teaching in junior middle school and cultivate creative people for the future society.
