Employing the research method of narrative inquiry, this paper is going to discuss how universities cooperate with primary schools and middle schools in action research by studying the action research case of Chinese characters learning in primary schools"which was conducted by College of Elementary Education of D University and a certain primary school in the suburbs of Beijing in the second half of the year 2005. After observing and analyzing what difficulties and changes they were facing and how they adjusted their cooperative strategies to resolve them during the research, the author intends to offer some experience, which will be beneficial to the subsequent action research, and in turn be helpful both to curriculum development and to teacher's professional development.This paper can be divided into four parts:Introduction, where the background of action research, including its origin and development, characteristics, and development in China, is given. The purpose and significance of this research, as well as research method taken are also introduced in this part.Chapter one gives a description of the action research case: why the research was launched; what they have prepared before the research; how the research went on, etc.Chapter two focuses on the effects that the research has brought to the teachers: it has changed the way teachers recognizing their teaching aims, presenting the teaching content, and has strengthened their sense of reflection and posing question, and in turn their professional development.Chapter three is an analysis and reflection of the action research. In this part the participants' professional and academic background, improvement between them during the research process, and how they adjusted their strategy are analyzed. Based on the above analysis the author reflects on a series of problems, such as how to stick to a consistent aim, how to understand and improve the project, and so on.Appendix: component teachers of the research team agenda of the action research...
