In the 21st century, with the renewal of knowledge and the speedy development, every person is facing the tests and challenges of times, and learning how to study became the core of the development of education. Learning how to study, in other words, is mastering the tools of cognition in order to keep with the development of economy and knowledge. The present educational psychology research points out that the mastery of studying strategy is an important sign of knowing how to learn. And the teaching of the studying strategy is one main means to achieve this goal. In the stage of elementary education in China, the studying of Chinese which is based on the studying of Chinese characters should pay special attention to the studying of Chinese characters.The appropriate employment of learning strategies helps to improve the study efficiency, and to promote the development of the ways of thinking and various other abilities in character studying of elementary education. Thus the studies based on these have great sense in the process of elementary students'learning Chinese characters. Through an analysis of the current situation of the study of Chinese characters by elementary students, this thesis makes use of the knowledge related to psychology and teaching, offers a through study on the learning strategies of Chinese characters and teaching methods on it, concludes the present situation about the elementary students'learning Chinese characters and gives proper advice so as to improve the teaching methods and the studies on this field.1 The first chapter of the thesis utilizes literature law, giving a detailed description on the definition, the classification, the characteristics, the information processing of the learning strategy, based on a extensive reading of the books and other materials on teaching methods.2 The second chapter of the thesis discusses the characteristics of Chinese characters, the theoretical basis of the Chinese character learning strategy and its content, an overview of the studying situation of Chinese characters by elementary students, the characteristics of the development of their cognition, the content of the learning strategies on Chinese characters by elementary students, altogether six parts, to promote the development of the studies on this field.3 In the third and fourth chapters, the questionnaire on studying situation of Chinese characters of elementary students has been constructed, based on the results of a number of questionnaires and according to the elementary students'characteristics about their cognitive situation and their learning Chinese characters. With the employment of the method of sample investigation and the individual interview, the author of the thesis interviewed several teachers and students in two elementary schools in the city of Changchun, and got the first-hand materials about the current studying situation of elementary students. Thus the thesis makes a conclusion on this topic.4 The fifth chapter of the thesis based on the former studies on psychology and education, analyzes the investigation results and offers progressive advice on the studying of Chinese characters of elementary students.
