Geography Information System (GIS) has been widely used in various fields of production and life ever since 1960s. How to solve the increasingly complicated problems such as population, resources, environment and development puts forward the higher request to the student's information-literacy. So, the universal education for the geography information technology, for example GIS, has become urgent mission of the geography education in middle school currently.New curriculum standards of national common senior high school emphasize application for information technology in studying geography. They are included in the compulsory and elective courses. Because of the limited condition, enhancing the applied education for GIS still is being placed at the preparative stage. Nevertheless, there are possibilities in exploring the new path of GIS educational teaching more actively.At first, the paper studies domestic and foreign references about present situation of GIS education in middle school. Secondly, it simply explains the GIS connotation based on interrelated theories, and discusses auxiliary functions that GIS has made in geography teaching. Thirdly, the paper gives the methods that are used in introducing GIS to geography teaching in middle school, and analyzes necessities and advantages. Then, through the teaching practice and the research, the article attempts to construct conformity implementation pattern of GIS and disquisitive study in geography discipline. At the same time, it researches the result that making GIS be used in inquiry-based teaching has its unique superiority to enhance the student's abilities of spatial imagination and finding and solving problems. Finally, this article points out some problems that are unsolved.
