As an important issue in the contemporary education research, self-regulated learning were given more and more attention. Based on the urgency of self-developed people in future society, the necessity and possibility of individual's development, and the necessity of the recent reform of all the schools in our nation, we tried a demonstrating research on this issue. As Dr Pang in East China Normal University did, self-regulated learning were defined on two dimensions of horizontal and vertical in this thesis. Horizontal dimension means a general definition on all aspects of learning, while vertical dimension means interpreting the substance of learning on the whole process of learning. This research corporated the horizontal dimension, and viewed self-regulated learning as an ability. We investigated the students in grade four, five and six by questionnaire which wad made up on seven dimensions including learning motivation, contents, methods, time, outcome, and environment. After analyzing the data, we demonstrated the status quo of pupils'self-regulated learning, tested the grade and gender differences of pupils'self-regulated learning, and gave constructive advice.Since November of 2006, according to the pupils'scores in the final tests in the recent few years, we selected three categories of schools which presented the"good, middle, and bad", and one class of grade four, five, and six in each category. In term of the investigation and the analysis of the outcome, we draw the conclusion as:a, pupils'ability of self-regulated learning shows differences in different aspects of learning. For instance, pupils were more self-regulated in learning process and methods, while less in the outcome and contents of learning.b. it proves a rising trend in the development of pupils'self-regulated learning, consistent to the sequences of pupils'cognitive development. Given the particularity of learning goals, such as the few learning contents and the little time students can use freely, the students in grade six are less self-regulated than the pupils in grade five.c. gender difference exist in some aspects of self-regulated learning, and girls have significantly higher levels than boys. For example, girls in grade four and six are significantly more self-regulated than boys on aspect of learning time.d. pupils'self-regulated learning is plastic, which should be interpreted by both the teachers and pupils in order to improve the cultivation of self-regulated learning.e. the cultivation of self-regulated learning in grade six and five should go along mainly by teaching with students'observative learning as assistance, while just the opposition in grade six. The cultivation should be consistent with individuals'characteristics on different aspects of learning.
