In the course of teaching,teachers often find there are differences between boys and girls in learning geometry.But are teachers sure that these differences absolutely exist? If the answer is yes, and then how these differences are shown to us? With these questions,â… investigated more than seven hundred students form junior 1 to junior 3 who come from three different middle schools in Kunming and make this research that is about gender differences in middle school students' geometry teaming.With the investigation and analysis of student examples,I will discuss if there are gender differences in geometry learning between boys and girls in middle schools,and then where we can find these differences and how they develop? Next,I will find out the reason of such gender differences:Mentality is the inner cause for the differences.For this aspect,the ways of thinking, study style,confidence and attribution work most.Family education and school education are the key cause to the differences.And the society environment usually influence the differences for long time and unconsciously.Based on the analysis,I wilt give some suggestions to teachers and their teaching:First,teachers should change their own concept of geometry teaching and deal with the gender differences in a right way.Teachers should especially avoid the unconsious gender prejudice in teaching.Next,teachers should teach boys and girls by using different ways:teachers could help girls build up or strengthen their own confidence.They can strike a balance between boys' and girls' features of cognition development,and form kinds of teaching strategies.And then,according to various teaching contents,teachers can divide students into suitable groups to guide boys and girls to learn geometry and at the same time train their ability of learning.Next,teachers should lead students to make proper attributions of learning.Last,teachers should focus more on girls' emotion and attitude about geometry learning.Moreover,teachers should develop students' constructive conception of geometry knowledge,geometry learning and self-efficacy.
