Secondary Vocational School Students Professional Values ​​of Their Career Decision-making

Occupational values were people's attitudes towards occupations, or the value orientation revealed in occupational activities. Occupational decision-making was the process that people choosed an occupation according to their own characteristics, environment and social development. Occupational values and decision-making were both the hot issues concerned by educationists, psychologists and experts in human resources in recent years. However, most of the studies were on college students or young people with a job and few were on secondary vocational school students. In order to know the information of occupational values of secondary vocational school students and orient their occupational activities, the present study investigated 524 students from four secondary vocational schools in Henan province.The present study had three parts: (a)making the tools: to compile a occupational value scale for secondary vocational school students and to investigate the reliability and validity of the former scale and Orientation and Emotional Comfort Scale, by Exploratory factor analysis ,Confirmatory factor analysis and Coefficient of internal consistency; (b) investigating the influence of Demographics variables on occupational values; and (c) analysis of the relationship between occupational values and occupational decision-making.The result revealed that there were four dimensions in secondary vocational school students' occupational values, and there were differences among different dimensions for students from different grades and specialties. We also found the dimensions that influenced the occupational decision-making.
