This study aims at finding a suitable English writing teaching approach for secondary vocational schools.On the basis of reviewing the literature and discussing the problems of the English writing teaching in secondary vocational schools, the author of this essay puts forward a "fit" writing approach -a two-period comprehensive approach. The first period combines grammar with writing, which enables students to begin with sentence writing according to the carefully made teaching plan. In the second period students are taught how to write short articles. Different approaches are used in different situations, or a combined approach is put into use when necessary. In this way the shortage of class time will be solved and by all means the tiring writing class can become more lively and acceptable. The author will contrast the practical effectiveness of comprehensive approach and product approach in English writing teaching through experimental research. The study includes two hypotheses:1. Comprehensive approach is more effective than product approach in improving secondary vocational school students' English writing proficiency.2. Comprehensive approach serves better than product approach to arouse students' interest in English writing.The one-year study result shows that the subjects under the instruction of this two-period comprehensive approach achieve more significant growth in English writing proficiency and interest in writing. It is an effective English writing approach for students from secondary vocational schools.In the end, the writer makes some suggestions on how to make full use of comprehensive approach. For instance, the teacher must adjust the writing teaching plan to the actual levels of the students. What's more, comprehensive approach should be started at the very beginning of the first grade in secondary vocational schools.
