The new national curriculum reforms of compulsory education were officially initiated in 2001. With the "development of each individual" as its educational pursuit, there have been great breakthroughs and innovation in its curriculum functions, curriculum conceptions, curriculum objectives, curriculum contents, curriculum evaluation, etc. In the meanwhile, a series of new ideas, objectives and implementing requirements in the discipline of Chinese have been put forward with the combination of its disciplinary characteristics. For years, curriculum reform has always been the hot topic in the domain of fundamental education. In this article, the author conducts surveys and investigates the condition of Chinese Curriculum reforms, with some urban junior middle schools In Huai'an City as its case studies. The survey indicates that remarkable achievements have been achieved in training teachers, updating of teacher's teaching conception, transformation of students' learning techniques, the exploitation of textbooks, etc. However, there still exist some problems: not profoundly understanding the concept of the new curriculum among teachers, the study of independent cooperation merely on the surface, the low efficiency in the use of multimedia, too much deficiency in the interpretations of textbooks, some curriculums existing yet not in practice, etc. (校本课程)As an ordinary yet quickly developed city with fair economic foundation, the condition of the new curriculum reforms in the junior schools in Huai'an City is typically representative. From the survey we deeply feel that to further the reform of the Chinese Curriculum and improve the efficiency and practicability of the curriculum and its teaching and learning, the training forms and the training contents must be selected carefully, that the new concept of the curriculum must be accurately comprehended, that the construction of the curriculum resources must be strengthened , and that the reformation of the appraisal system concerned must be sped up and completed.
