It is agreed that the cultivation of humanism should be emphasized in the education for middle school students. The articles abstracted from foreign literature attract more attention in Chinese teaching for its rich spirit of humanism. The paper starts with the requirements in new curriculum standards and combines years'teaching practice to discuss the key events in foreign literature teaching. It is pointed out that the instructive complement in foreign literature should be found out to make the rich soil for culture cultivation together with traditional Chinese literature as the resources of spirit provided for the students. Quoted for the difficulty faced in foreign literature teaching in practice, the paper puts forward that teacher should give up the old concept of learning Chinese only as a tool and proposes to carry out the effective reading training for students by learning background knowledge, creating vivid situation to care more for students'emotion experiencing and instruct students'personalized reading from different points of view. Meanwhile, extracurricular reading should be made use of as potent complement and extension to set up a tridimensional pattern for foreign literature teaching in middle school. Application of those methods and concepts will help students to develop the lifelong ability of reading and finally achieve the improvement of humanism.
