The Yugu nationality is one of the ethnic minority groups with small population in China. They mainly live in Su'nan Yugu Autonomous County and Huangnipu Yugu Autonomous Town of Gansu Province. The local teaching materials of the Yugu nationality developed by Su'nan No. 2 Middle School is the first local teaching materials of its kind, which plays a groundbreaking role in inheriting and developing Yugu traditional culture.The thesis records the process of developing and applying the local teaching materials of the Yugu nationality. Based on field research and analysis of relevant literatures, the thesis studies the development and application of the local teaching materials using the Multicultural Curriculum Theory of Banks. It is composed of four major parts: introduction, development of the local teaching materials of the Yugu nationality, analysis on development of the local teaching materials, and the practical strategies for multicultural curriculum development in ethnic minority areas.The first three chapters focus on the object, process, social influence and application of the local teaching materials of the Yugu nationality, recording the development process and analyzing its advantage and defects. Chapter Four studies the relationship between development of the Yugu nationality local teaching materials and multicultural curriculum development, and tries to explore the opportunities in multicultural curriculum development in minority areas within the Three-level Curriculum Administrative System. Finally, the thesis provides specific suggestions and approaches for multicultural curriculum development concerning object, content and application of the teaching materials, based on the experience of Su'nan No.2 Middle School.A new round of reform on curriculum of the basic education in China has established the Three-level Curriculum Administrative System. It provides institutional guarantee and new opportunities for the multicultural curriculum development in ethnic minority areas. To develop school-based curriculum can promote development of the education in ethnic minority areas, as it respects cultural diversity and difference, meets the actual needs of students in these areas and can improve their multicultural literacy. It is expected that the multicultural curriculum development in ethnic minority areas can be accelerated and further promoted along with the new curriculum reform.
