The general meaning and the pedagogy meaning of the word training are not invariable,but have been changing since 1904.In general meaning,people are more consistent to the understanding of training.This word is the military terminology at first.In general meaning the word refers to teaching somebody and causing somebody to practice some skill,and causing somebody to get some kind of ability or knowledge.In pedagogy meaning,the word refers to the student's practice under the instruction of the teacher.Along with the development of the time, the meaning of this word stresses in the student's passive operational activity.Taking this as the breakthrough point,the thesis uses the literature methodology and the historical comparison method,and analyzes the change of the concept of language training.First,the thesis introduces the thought of language training in four stages,taking 1949,1976, 1997 as three breaking points of time.At the time of pre-liberation,the meaning of the word is student's activity.The technical training is to raise the ability of reading and writing.In the 1960s, people emphasize the basic training,which refers to learning the model essay,mastering and utilizing language elementary knowledge.In the 1980s and 1990s,the connotation of language training is expanded,which manifests that people pursue the order of the curriculum content and highly effective teaching.At the beginning of the 21st century,people propose the phrase of skill training,which refers to the operation of skill.Second,taking the development of language training thought as a background and resting on the related literature,the thesis summarizes five kind of views on language training as follows:the language training refers to raising the linguistic skills,which manifests language tool's nature;the language training refers to language teaching;the language training refers to language practice;the language training refers to student's initiative activities under teacher's instruction,which manifests the harmonious teaching process;the language training refers to the language skill training.The reason to these different viewpoints is that people don't understand the issue from the meaning of training.The essence is that people have different ideas in raising language ability.People have the same value tendency to the issue.That is the concept of language training affirms the importance of student's language practice and correctly handles the relation between teaching and studying.It reflects people pursue scientific and efficient language teaching.The analysis of the issue is helpful for us to understand much controversy over this issue. And this will help us to give a proper evaluation of language training.
