| This thesis focuses on the study of the middle schools ten years before the Sino-Japanese War in Beiping area, which include the administration system, the development of each kind of middle schools, the curriculum, the study on teaching materials, teaching staff and so on. The study on this period shows the general situation of the middle school education, and presents the general picture of modern education development in Beiping area.The thesis consists of five chapters.The introduction discusses the origin and the significance of the research .The author reviews the related academic research on a comprehensive perspective and analyzes the present situation of education and insufficiency of the middle schools research in Beiping area. Some specific concepts such as"Beping"and"the middle school education"have been also defined.The first chapter introduces the Beiping educational administration system, including the reorganization of educational administration department, the enhancement of government management and the measures to improve education, as well as the betterment of internal management in secondary schools. Meanwhile, the author reveals the prominent characteristics of middle school education management during this period.The second chapter introduces the development of each kind of middle schools (which consists of public school, private school and ethnic secondary school) ten years before the Sino-Japanese War in Beiping. The paper also concentrates on the study of managerial ability in public schools and the characteristics of private schools.The third chapter analyzes the educational system, the curriculum and the teaching materials. All these show the steady development of modern middle in the 1930s in Beiping area.The fourth chapter, from the two bodies-----teachers and students, studies the general situation of middle school in a pratical way.The fifth chapter elaborates on several important events, the implementing single-sex in private middle schools in 1935, teaching staff's demand on pay rise, and the students' reaction towards the national crisis. Through describing these events, the author aims to unfold the general picture of social background as well as some main problems in the process of education modernization, which may provide certain enlightenment for educators today.The concluding part gives a brief summary of the link between modern education and historical education. |
