In the current world economic scenario characterized by a growing globalization, the integration of regional economies appears to be one of the manifestations of economic globalization, deemed as a necessary stage of the global integration process. These processes promote the industrial displacement and manufacture resources redistribution. The trend of supply chain globalization becomes increasingly obvious along with the development of Multinational Corporation. Multinational shipping companies enlarge their fleet constantly. The increase of vessel size present challenges to the port management. The function and operation of port will be impacted deeply by the reasons mentioned above. And the ports will face much more serious competition environment.Hence, the ports should adjust their development strategy to the environment. It is very necessary for ports to improve their competitive position and economic performance. So we should analyze the internal and external environment of the ports. The strength and weakness of them should also be considered correctly. This thesis focuses on environmental analysis of Chinese ports with the objective of improving their competitive position in global supply chains. In line with this objective, the study presents a framework for the analysis of port development strategy. The research presented in this thesis should be understood from theoretical and positivist perspective. The thesis is divided into four chapters:First the thesis gives an introduction of the objective, the significance of the research in this thesis and technical exposition of the methodologies of the thesis. The research status of development strategy of ports (both in Chinese and foreign countries) are also introduced in this chapter.Chapter one describes the study of supply chain and position theory based on seaport. The thesis analyzes the development of supply chain theory and main part of seaport position theory. The research in this thesis demonstrates the inevitability of emergence of port network and its development trend.Chapter two discusses the strength, weakness, opportunity and threats of Chinese ports. The thesis gives clear analyses of objective developing environment of Chinese ports. Meanwhile, it shows a rational knowledge toward the problems of...
