Combining theoretical and experimental methods, the traction performance of impact roller is analyzed in this paper. Through the analysis, we can get that the large changing traction cause large power consumption, and uneven surface cause that the impact roller can't fully operation. According to the "energy-saving principle based on potential energy for mechanical design ", the balanced impact roller is researched. To get the traction performance of balanced impact roller, the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation are carried out, and experimental data conform with theoretical analysis results.Through the analysis of test data and traction graphics for the balanced impact roller, it shows that:1)at the same speed condition, the balanced impact roller's traction in the soft subgrade condition is bigger than it in the hard subgrade conditions.2)Balanced impact roller is more reasonable in the collapsible loess foundation when it works at phase 1.3)Balanced impact roller's startup time is about 1.5S in the soft subgrade conditions, and in the start process the instantaneous maximum traction force is about 150-200KN, but the average traction force is about 60-80KN.4)Balanced impact roller's swerve is normal, and in the whole process of swerve the traction is no significant mutation.5)Balanced impact roller's maximum traction force is not more than 60KN and the average traction not more than 40KN when it work at fine speed (9-13 km/h), and its dynamic amplitude range is small.Comparing balanced impact roller with original impact roller, analysis is carried out and it shows that:1) balanced impact roller could save energy about 12.5% than the original impact roller, if they work at the same conditions and get the same operation effect.2) balanced impact roller could improve the road unevenness than original impact roller, and it could deepens influence depth for the loess subgrade.This paper has evaluated the traction performance of balanced impact roller, which can provides a detailed reference for the further researches and engineering applications of its series products.
