Following the full construction of smart grid,the every power company of province developsmany new or rebuilding projects. Many communication companies pay attention to theseprojects and offer own solution. They hope that it become one of the important industry in thefuture.In recent years, smart grid has experienced rapid development in China. It has formedstrategic framework and development route and stage goal. The construction of strong smart gridinvolves six application areas such as power generation, transmission, distribution, electric andcommunication platform for these areas. In this paper a new access network solution is designedwith the actual work. Firstly the research focuses on the smart grid construction connotation andreal communication needs and the structure of electric power communication network. As theresult of distribution automation system and information collection system are the keyconstruction projects for power distribution link and electricity link, thus the paper alsoresearches on the system component and network communication structure. Secondly the paperstudies the technology of passive optical network EPON technology and Ethernet ring networkEAPS technology for the access network of distribution automation system and informationcollection system. It includes the composition and working principle of the technology and coretechnology and so on. Then through the communication network and the main technologyresearch, the paper summarizes the design demand and analyzes the communication device withthe actual work project. At the same time the paper sortes and analyzes the existing systemsolutions and designes a new system solution—the hybrid networking solution. The new solutionis still adhering to the mature network architecture of existing solutions, but it has more capacity for adapting to the actual work environment both in the scalability and access. Finally the newsolution is simulated in the laboratory environment. Based on the equipment main technicalconfiguration implementation the new solution can be realized. In the analog network thefunctionality and performance is tested for passive optical network and industry switches.Through summarizing and analyzing the test results it proves that the solution can meet thepractical application needs.With the development of optical communication technology, EPON can upgrade to10GEPON. The Gigabit switch can upgrade to10Gbps. So the hybrid networking solution can alsoadapt the new communication network.
