With the rapid urbanization process in China, a large number of existing buildings are taking down without going through their whole life cycle. Throughout this phenomenon, it is not difficult to find out that the contradiction between the space quality and the demands of use is a major cause which leads to the "short-lived" of buildings. The lack of the sustainable consideration of space design and uncertainty of its use function even in the construction phase together lead to high energy consumption, poor quality and low efficiency of space. The maintenance and renovation of existing buildings is quite a problem for architects.The traditional way of space renovation mostly focuses on the object, and the method is also based on architect’s subjective ideas, without the support of specific data. Therefore, the dissertation introduces a set of Post-occupancy Evaluation mode to improve it so as to enhance the rationalization and scientificity of the space renovation. This study focuses on the application of design methods. The result of the study can be used to promote and guild some renovation practice. Meanwhile, author hope the inland architectural scholars can pay more attention to this problem and study on the sustainable space renovation design method.This Paper firstly definite the sustainable space renovation and Post-occupancy Evaluation mode and discusses the normal process of the mode. After this, the evaluation of using the atrium, which in the Architectural Building (Crescent Building) of the Zhejiang University, is studied, including the Space use of Satisfaction and the Physical comfort environment indicators. The result provides necessary support data for the sustainable space renovation as a feedback. And then the atrium space transformation design is conducted in four aspects, including function layout, space design, physical environment and operation management. Simulation software is used to verify the availability of the strategy of renovation. Finally, the scheme of the space renovation design method is concluded through the practice of ’Crescent Building’. The guiding significance of architectural space renovation is discussed at the end.
