"Lover" In Chinese Translation And Acceptance

After being introduced into China in 1980s, Marguerite Duras and her literary works were warmly followed by numbers of people in China, and there has appeared propagation upsurge for three times. Her classical work The Lover was translated into six versions in a short time, and it has created "Duras phenomenon" in china. Although Duras and her works have been studied from various angles, fewer researches are embarked on from the view of translation. Thus, this author intends to make an analysis on the influence of The Lover towards Chinese literature as well as the degree that how Chinese writers accept this work through the comparison among different translated versions of The Lover.This paper involves five parts. Introduction, based on Descriptive Translation Studies, deals with feasibility of the research direction, means and technology, and it also generalizes the current situation of study on The Lover. Chapter one mainly discusses the related information of The Lover. Chapter two makes an introduction on the social background when The Lover was introduced into China, and points out that Wang Daoqian's translation is the most suitable by way of exploring different versions of The Lover. Chapter three discusses the specific reception of The Lover in the circle of Chinese writers with concrete and accurate materials. Conclusion summarizes main findings as follows: translation plays an important role in accelerating the communication between different nations on language, literature, culture and so on. In the process of translation, the advanced issues can be absorbed so as to promote the development of domestic literature, which is exactly the value of translation. Moreover, both the translating activity and the acceptance of the translated works by the target countries show human beings'pursuit of the civilization.
