Since the late 1990s, Chinese government launched a grassroots democracy plan. In order to change the slow development of democracy, governments planed to have a big election reform in some large cities of China. Although some of them are quite smoothly, there are many problems be exposed. These problems restricted the long-term development of democracy at the grass-roots level. About half a century ago, residents committee was established in China. Scholars concerned about those organization of self-government.My thesis explores the view at the direct election of residents committee. And I try to analyze the situation and problems of direct election. Take it for example, the main factors, the election process, the patterns of the election, the organization, the funding requirements, the candidate's qualifications and so on. I think the relationship of power mechanism really plays an important role in direct election of residents committee. Local party organization and local government will control the process and the result of the election. So a detailed analysis is much more important in my thesis. I do not think the process of this direct election can bring our country a bright future. But it can start from the urban communities.
