The Olympic Competition, which is committed to stimulating interest in science among teenagers, will do much favor to developing intelligence and improving ability of them and thus it is much appreciated by many countries and regions. The common academic competitions of China can be summarized as follows:mathematics, physics, chemistry, information science and biology, which play a significant role in enhancing the professionalism of students and promoting quality-oriented education in school. Against this background, geography Olympiad came into being. As the International Geography Olympiad been held for seven times and the National Geographic Olympiad of China been held for three times, geography Olympiad has formed a multi-level pattern from local to national. In order to inspire students'interest in studying geographic environment and develop students'knowledge and skills on geography, the basic proposition ideas of geography Olympiad is to examine the students'values, knowledge and skills related to geography, which is in favor of promoting the reform and improving the quality of geography education in middle school.Taking the International Geography Olympiad and the National Geographic Geography Olympiad as the research objects, along with using the methods such as literature reviewing method, inductive method, statistical method, analytical method, comparison method and so on, questions of the exam were analyzed from the two standpoints of module and score. Firstly, by analyzing the test case of the physical geography and human geography, regional geography and system geography statistically in the International Geography Olympiad and the National Geographic Olympiad from the perspective of question module, the geographic literacy that teenagers should possess was reduced to the ability of obtaining and reading geographic information, using geographical knowledge, describing and interpreting geographic matter, arguing and discussing issues, expressing geographic-terminology in English. Secondly, taking the seventh International Geography Olympiad for example, geographic literacy of students in various countries was studied from the perspective of score. And the strength and weakness Chinese competitors owned were discovered. Finally, based on pondering the current situation of geographic teaching in China, some suggestions such as setting up innovative philosophy of teaching, building balanced curriculum system, using synthetic teaching methods and executing pluralistic teaching evaluation were put forward systematically.
