As the starting step of foreign language education, the English language teaching has special pupils——the children who are learning both English and the native language at the same time. Offering the English language course starting from Grade3 is a significant evolution of the basic education in China. However, the New English Course Standard become a new challenge to teachers of English, and the traditional grammar-translation method is still very common in English teaching, which does little to help improve students' overall English competency and does not fit the distinguishing psychological or physical features of students.Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) is a widely accepted teaching theory in recently years. It is a teaching approach which takes the students as main subject in class, with the principle of "learn for using, learn from each other, learn and then use", and aims to improve the skills of comprehensive language application.This thesis mainly researches effective teaching pattern and some strategies and effects with task-based approach in English teaching in primary school. I took six months to make a teaching experiment on the 94 students of grade 5 of Li Hua No.2 Primary School. I divide the 94 students into two classes which are experimental class and reference class. In this study, Task-based approach is used in the experimental class and regular teaching method in the reference class.With the help of SPSS Data Analysis, I use column chart and statistical comparisons to take a comparison between the two classes. Facts have proved that the quality of instruction of the experimental has increased considerably.Task-based approach is superior to the other traditional teaching methods. Since it's helpful to promote the English teaching effectiveness for students, and it also pushes forward English language teaching to grow healthily for our teachers. Task-based approach is not on purpose of mechanical drill of some language practices, but to achieve the goal according to their experience and cooperation with partners, Students join a task, not only for the sake of achieving a mission, but also to communicate and convey some information, share ideas with your friends, discuss and exchange opinions on a topic. They enjoy happiness, and fulfillment, promote compositive language skills.So further study on task-based approach in English class especially in primary school is essential and important.
