The Application Of Narrative Psychological Therapy In Chinese University Psychological Counseling

In spite of the rapid development of the Higher Education of China, the mental health level of Chinese college students showed a decreasing trend. Psychological counseling has played a key role in concerning for the mental health of college students and guiding them to have a comprehensive development. It has become an urgent task to explore ways of psychological consultation which fit college students better. Based on the theory of narrative psychology, narrative therapy is a way of psychological consultation using the narrative methods. It takes advantage of unique function of narrative of meaning construction and personality construction, solves the psychological problem by making client bring out their life stories. Narrative therapy fits the physical and psychological development of college students. Therefore bringing it to psychological consultation can enrich the psychological counseling methods and techniques in colleges, bring psychology into the lives of college students, guide them to solve their psychological problems by themselves, and ultimately deconstruct the negative views about themselves, to achieve the perfect personality.This paper summarizes the status of university psychological counseling, puts forward the deficiency of psychological counseling of universities. Meanwhile, the paper also completes a survey on how professional teachers in psychological counseling centers of three universities understand narrative psychological therapy and utilize it during counseling. Combined with the characteristic of both physical and psychological development stages of college students, as well as the distinctiveness of university campus environment, this thesis discusses the advantages of narrative psychology in university psychological counseling. Based on the basic theories and techniques of narrative psychological therapy, and the unique condition of university psychological counseling, this paper tries to summarize the principles of using narrative therapy in university psychological counseling.
