This thesis is to study the necessity of graded English teaching for small classes of senior high schools of music characteristics and to set up a general intra-class graded teaching mode through a teaching experiment.Education should focus on every student, and grade teaching satisfies the needs of current teaching reforms, so the study has great practical meanings. The aim of the study is to make teaching in line with individual differences in learning and meet the different needs of students. Students learn effectively and successfully with their own basic level so that they can build their confidence in learning ability and promote their interest in English learning.Through a careful literature review and a large amount of reading of related materials, the paper puts forward a general mode of intra-class grade teaching suitable for English teaching in senior high schools with the related teaching strategies.The so-called grade teaching means classifying students into different levels for teaching according to students'intellectual level, learning proficiency and non-intellectual factors so as to improve students with different steps. The essence of it is to promote students to achieve maximum development within their ability by taking scientific measures to interfere and adjust the differences actively in face of objective individual differences. The study of the thesis is based on Vygotsky's Theories of Proximal Development Zone, Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences and Bloom's Master Learning Theory.In Chapter Two, a careful literature review is made with an explanation of some related theories on grade teaching.Chapter Three analyzes the strategies of the teaching experiment on the basis of the investigation of all the students, and discusses the basic principles and models for the design of the experiment.In Chapter Four, with the classes of music characteristics in author's school as the research objects, the paper concentrates on the teaching experiment, explaining the hypothesis, objects and tools, analyzing the control variables and illustrating the process of grade teaching in class. After one year's experiment, the related data are collected.Chapter Five discusses and analyzes the results of the experiment. On the basis of the analysis, the advantages of grade teaching are demonstrated and some suggestions for English teaching in senior high schools are made accordingly.In Chapter Six, the conclusion is drawn. To teachers, grade teaching is an exhausting teaching practice without instant effect. It's necessary to summarize the experience constantly and improve teaching modes in grade teaching process, thus promoting students'enthusiasm and initiative and satisfying the different needs of students.
