Oral communication is closely related to our daily life. It's the tool of communication for human beings. As we all known, oral communication is very important for us, but the oral communication teaching is always a blind spot of school teaching. In our country, the goals and standards of oral communication teaching are different in different period. The proposing of New Curriculum Standard has guided a clear direction for oral communication teaching. I have made an investigation on Senior Two students and Chinese teachers of Attached Middle School of Henan University and found that the present condition of high school oral communication teaching is still far from being satisfactory. On the one hand, teachers have no time to teach oral communication and even don't know clearly how to teach oral communication; on the other hand, students have no interests in learning oral communication, so even though they had lessons, they still make no improvement. These are the main problems of oral communication teaching. Aiming at these problems and with the guidance of New Curriculum Standard, the paper will give some advice for both teachers and students. Teachers should pay more attention to oral communication teaching. In the process of teaching, teachers should change their roles. In the oral communication class, teacher is no longer the boss but an instructor of students, the class should be the paradise for students to talk freely. In the process of training students, teachers should focus on the creation and setting of contexts and let the students practice in different contexts. In order to gather more experiences, teachers should make conclusions after the practice. Teachers should also extend the oral communication teaching to others courses, improving the students' abilities of oral communication as well as their comprehensive quality. Teachers should make use of students' free time and encourage them to take part in the social practices, so as to let students practice their communication ability autonomously. All in all, we can improve students' communication ability not only by teaching, but also the practices of students. Only if teachers and students cooperate with each other to complete the training, can the oral communication teaching go smoothly, and the students make progress in their oral communication abilities.
