With the development of social information and globalization of economy, people have gradually realized the importance of a foreign language as a tool for global communication. As an international language, English has become a vitally important language and English learning has become a part of our life. Reading is an extremely valuable skill for our English learners. We can get information, enlarge our vocabulary and improve our writing ability through reading, thus reading teaching plays a significant role in English teaching in senior high school. In resent years, English teachers have been facing great challenges for New English Curriculum Standard set a series of new requirements to English reading teaching.A number of experts have made a lot of researches on the implementation of New English Curriculum Standard in key senior high school, but few of them paid attention to the implementation in ordinary senior high school. Therefore, the author took the teachers of two senior high schools as subjects and investigate the basic information of the English teachers, the English teachers'understanding towards New English Curriculum Standard, the implementation of the objectives, content, teaching theories, methods and evaluations of reading teaching, and the difficulties in reading class to know the implementation of New English Curriculum Standard in reading class in ordinary senior high school. Through the analysis of the research results, the author found the main problems in the process of implementation and then gave some feasible suggestions based on the practical situation.This paper includes five parts:Part one is introduction, which includes the background, content, significance and methods of this study.Part two is literature review, which includes the definition of reading, three models of reading, and requirements of New English Curriculum Standard in reading class.Part three is research methodology, which includes the purpose, subjects, methods, instruments and the procedure of the research.Part four is the analysis of the research results.Part five is refection and suggestions to the implementation in reading teaching in ordinary senior high school.
