The quantity of the impoverished university students grows up fleetly as the reformation which is held by the government on the enrollment system and the charge system in universities. Definitely most of the impoverished university students have mentally problems because of various pressure which endured by them, such as the press from living, the press from learning and the press from job hunting. It is already a common sense that we should pay close attention to the mental health of the impoverished university students when we supply financial salvation to them. Presentlty universities in our country have developed some mental health education to the impoverished students, and reached stated achievements. But current mental health education mode cannot fulfil the demand of the impoverished students'psychological development as the rapidly evolution of the society. Under these circumstances, we should feel for some new means to solve impoverishesd students'psychological problems, and one of the new attempts is to develop school social work.There are lots of researches on impoverished students'mental health recently, however, those on the intervention of school social work in this work field are comparatively scarce, say nothing of the empirical study which starts with the theory of social role. This kind of research can conduce to consummate the impoverished university students'psychological health education, advance the healthy development of the poor students'psychology and improve their ability to acclimatize themselves to the civil life, and finally make them actualize their integrated development.This research starts with the view of positivism, exert the qualitative interviewing method to achieve first hand information which consists of the psychological condition of the impoverished university students, the actual demands of the poor students'mentally healthy development and the university assistants'attitude on the mental education of the impoverished university students. It makes a depth analysis on the representation and the reasons of the poor university students'psychological problems, it also unscramble the role imbalance problems which occure in the current work process of impoverished university students'mental health education, such as role absense, role dimness and role conflict. Based on the advantage of school social work which intervene the poor students'mental health education, this paper put forward the roles which school social workers could play when deal with the impoverished university students'psychological problems, which are mentally supporter, empoverment worker and resource connecter. When school social workers should cooperate with the university assistants and psychologists when they play these roles. This paper tries to discuss the feasibility of the intervention of school social work in the impoverished university students'psychological health education, and ulteriorly raises the roles which should played by school social workers, strive to perfect the poor university students'mental health education with bran-new work methods, principles and skills, in order to make the impoverished university students grow up roundly.
