As the execution of the college expansion plan, the quantity of the impoverishedcollege students grows up fleetly day by day. Up to now, many scholars have made someexploratory researches on social work of poor students. However, they just stayed on thetheoretical stage and didn’t form a practical model. It is still a vacuum to use resiliencetheory to do social work on impoverished students. Therefore, this research aims to find anew means to solve the psychological problems of impoverished students. This research tries to build up a new model of school social work under the guidanceof resilience theory on improving mental health of college students, based on the formermodel——School Social Work Guided by the Resilience Theory. This model consists ofsix steps, including promoting impoverished students’ good connections with society, helping them build clear and stable boundary, teaching them life skills, providing concernand support to them, expressing high expectations to them, providing them withopportunities to participate. After raising the model, the research also put it into use onhelping a specific impoverished college student with psychological problems. The testproves the model effective. But, we have one more thing to add. Though this modelconsists of six steps, we should use them selectively when confronted with differentclients. In the case of this paper, knowing that this client himself has mastered some lifeskills and has correct principles, the social worker puts emphasis on the other three steps, which include promoting his good connections with society, providing concern andsupport to him, providing opportunities for him to participate. This method achieves thefinal success.
