Multi-media is a computer-based synthesis of processing various media information technologies. With the advent of the information age, the application of multimedia technology is maturing day by day. Today it has become one major feature and an indispensable teaching method of modern education.Compared with traditional teaching model, multimedia teaching has distinct advantages, especially in teaching the history of the world. It can greatly enrich the teaching resources, widen students' outlook and arouse their enthusiasm enormously. Therefore the learning efficiency is bound to improve as well as the teaching efficiency. However, in world history classes of high school, many teachers either ignore or abuse multimedia teaching methods. Some of them apply it indiscriminately and beyond students' real level of understanding, which leads to poor teaching effect.This paper starts with the current situation analysis of the application of multimedia technology in world history teaching. Then it discusses the value of multimedia teaching in terms of teacher, students, teaching materials, teaching process, college entrance examination system, and course evaluation, etc. Finally, it probes into some efficient teaching strategies in order to make the best use of multimedia teaching and to achieve efficient teaching of world history.
