Based on the basic standpoint of historical materialism, the basic concepts and methods of dialectical materialism and the theory of ideological and political Education, adhering to the scientific and historical combination of theoretical and practical principles of unity.The Paper compares the ideological and political education between China and America in different social systems and historical cultural background by rational investigation, especially focusing on methods and functions from the perspective of the analysis, comparison, refining and summary. On this basis, the paper is designed to assimilate and draw from the successful experiences of the ideological and political education in America, to enrich the present ideological and political education system in China.The first part of the paper expounds the research status of the comparative study of ideological and political education between China and America in recent years, as well as the research results carried out by the domestic and foreign scholars in related fields, with the aim to explore challenges and opportunities of the ideological and political education under the background of multicultural.The second part of the paper reviews the different methods of ideological and political education between China and America during different historical periods, and then conducts a comparative analysis.
